I’ve been drawing and painting since I was really young and my dream job when I was little was always to be an artist. I was often encouraged to get a real job however and keep art as a hobby. I worked in graphic design for a decade which fulfilled some creative needs but definitely not all. It wasn’t until I applied to the New Futures scheme for The Other Art Fair in October 2022 and, to my amazement, was chosen as one of the two winners that I finally started to realise my dream of potentially becoming an artist.

Since then I’ve been creating art full time and along with being a mum it’s my favourite thing to do. I love the journey of creating, I find it so therapeutic and it’s always been my favourite way of expressing myself and try to make sense of the world.

I create scenes of what goes on inside my mind as a way of processing emotions and experiences. I have an idea of what I want to paint before I start but during the process things get added in and rejigged as the work develops which can sometimes take it in a different direction. Anonymous characters make an appearance throughout my work and the reason they usually don’t have any facial features is because I want them to represent anyone that can relate to them and through that hopefully help the viewer create their own story and meaning behind each piece.

My art is layered with emotions and personal experiences but I try to not to over explain it as I’d like people to connect to it in a way that’s meaningful to them and I love that it can be interpreted in different ways depending on who’s looking at it.
